When the first series of 2007 Topps Baseball was released, it wasn't a hot rookie that received all the attention. Nor was it a rare insert or autograph. It was the Derek Jeter base card. At first glance, the card looks innocent enough: the Yankee superstar is taking a cut. But in the stands behind him, there's President George W. Bush on his feet, blocking the view of those behind him. In the dugout, the ghost of Mickey Mantle watches over the shortstop. Of course, both were added with a little Photoshop magic. It's not even good image manipulation either. But it got the set on the radar. The mainstream media got wind of it, which led to collectors speculating that the 2007 Topps Baseball Derek Jeter was an intentional error that would later be corrected. It wasn't. The card is as common as the rest in the set, but it remains a novelty and the standout card of an otherwise bland flagship set.
This lot features a 1996 Topps Baseball factory sealed complete set.
