The Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) voted to select Juan Marichal and Brooks Robinson to the 1983 class of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The Veterans Committee met in closed sessions to consider older major league players as well as managers, umpires, executives, and figures from the Negro Leagues. It selected Walter Alston and George Kell.
