Nicknamed the "Smiling Assassin," Steve Atwater, along with Dennis Smith, made up a Broncos secondary that was known for their ferocious hits on opposing players. He was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl champion. Atwater is considered to be one of the hardest hitting safeties in NFL history. Atwater's hit on Kansas City Chiefs running back Christian Okoye is often compared to the Oakland Raiders Jack Tatum's legendary hit on Houston Oilers running back Earl Campbell. Both hits are considered to be the two best hits on a running back by a safety in NFL history. Atwater was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 1, 2020.
This Denver Broncos mini helmet was signed in silver by Atwater and inscribed, "XXXII" and "XXXIII." This mini helmet includes a Great Moments COA.
