Dave Boss began consulting with NFL Properties in 1963 and became its
fourth employee in 1965, quickly working his way up to Corporate Vice
President and Creative Director, a position which he held for 26 years.
He painted his famous first set of NFL team paintings in 1965, which
were then reproduced as the first-ever set of NFL posters. These images
were then used on the covers of programs during the 1966 season. An avid
comic
book collector, David was also responsible for commissioning Super Bowl
artwork for Super Bowls I through XXV, including the memorable artwork
for both the highly coveted tickets and programs.
Included in this lot is a Baltimore Colts piece framed to 19-3/8 x
25-3/8” and signed by Boss. It should be clarified that this is NOT an
original painting, done by hand, but a silk-screened, textured image on
canvas, produced in 1965. These were produced with color coded frames to
match the team colors.
