Wieters was drafted fifth overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2007 Draft. Wieters played college baseball for Georgia Tech. He is a tall athletic hitter, standing 6 feet 5 inches tall. His ability to hit for power from both sides of the plate has drawn comparisons to Jorge Posada and Jason Varitek. Wieters is a 3-time All Star and 2-time Gold Glove winner.

This baseball was used in a game between the Orioles and Red Sox on June 15, 2013. Wieters was the batter and John Lackey was the pitcher when this ball was pitched into the dirt and discarded by the umpire.

This game used official ball has been signed by Wieters in blue ballpoint pen and inscribed "O's vs Red Sox." This ball includes a MLB hologram.
